Savor

The special moments in life.  Catch them before they pass on because they are rare to come by or can catch you by surprise.  Dwell in them; on them later on when there is time.

These moments can be so different for each person; it can be an exam aced for one person; for another a successful interview which could mean finally landing a coveted job, a championship title that has been achieved with all the sweat, blood and tears.

sky cloud sun

That moment when the sun suddenly comes out shining through the clouds when all you have had is a dreary, dark day!  At the end of trying times when you are waiting for that dream to come true and finally it happens after all those days of teeth gritting patience!

The person you love with your whole heart, proposes to you, that moment when the tear in your eye looks like a diamond not found anywhere on this earth. Savor it!

When the doctor confirms that you are about to be a parent, your joy knows no bounds, and you want to capture that moment forever and save it as a screenshot which you can relive later. Savor the moment!

When your child utters his first word, takes his first wobbly step, and calls out to you; you feel life rushing through you. Savor the sweet instance!

Your best friend is getting married and has asked you to go shopping with her, just the anticipation of the happy time you are going to have; and the plans you make, nothing can stop you smiling at such times.  Savor the anticipation!

After all, life happens in moments such as these.  Savor these moments, and if at all there are times that test your patience, then reliving these instances can help you endure through the trying period.

Zip

Zip =====

Emotional zips======

If there were emotional zips, it would be so easier to mend relations which had split wide open. A flick of the wrist and …Voila! everything is the same as it was before.

Or the other way….If a relation got too stuffy, a gentle little pullback, and …there! …let the air in!

Put a zip on your feelings ……..

At times you know it’s not wise to let your feelings flow.. so put a zip on them!

Or else …some other times, at some other place, it’s not healthy to bottle up so too!  So zip-open your thoughts and let someone know how you feel.

Again, if you are being trusted and receive confidential information, then zip it and keep it guarded.

Zip close …….

your mind to store all knowledge, good memories and positive thoughts, experiences that count.

Zip open up…….

to throw out the trash, negativity, and parts of life best left out.

My first exercise in the WordPress University course!  Makes me feel young again…. good to have some assignment after all these years.  Getting nostalgic about school days, and they are so far gone.

Well, the question to be answered is “Why do I Blog?”.

It is mostly to put into words my thoughts.  Where I can see them in print, and share them with the world.

The second subsequent question is about the meaning of a successful blog in my terms. My dream of a successful blog would be, (yeah, why not at least dream big?).  Where the search engines rank my blog on their number one priority list, and there is a lot of interesting work lined up for me.  Most of all I see this as an opportunity to increase my knowledge of things that rev up my curiosity, to make me more aware of things which as yet I have to discover.

The most important part would be for me when people who read my blog, feel connected to the ideas, and help them find answers they were looking for, go back with a smile on their face and a pleasant experience, only to visit again and again.   Yes! It would mean a lot to me if my blog helps people in some way, any little way possible!

WORK=LIFE, BALANCE THE EQUATION

Standard

worklife-balance

Dear Ladies;  most of you are bearing multiple responsibilities.  The work front and the home front being the major ones taking up most of your time and priorities.  Add to that the social circle as well. When the home front is smooth running, you can concentrate on the work front and increase your productivity.  For that, you have to set the priorities. But when the word priority comes in; the only person who can set the parameters is you and you only.

  • So make a list of all the important things in your everyday life and compartmentalise them according to the significance.  Next, assign the typical amount of time you can provide to each work and plan the schedule accordingly.
  • For instance, if preparing breakfast can prove to be time-consuming then keep in stock ready-made food which can provide the family with healthy and nutritious alternatives.  This needs careful planning, thinking of the needs of all of the family members and their time schedules.  This also brings to the fore one more important but sometimes underrated task and that is, stocking up your pantry.

This task can form the base of your entire home management

Keeping Stock

This task can form the base of your entire home and work management.  Because once the grocery, greens, and veggies and other necessary items are purchased and stored, you will be able to plan the whole week in advance.  This will make certain you have a smooth operation and stress-free routine.  So, if it entails buying online grocery or self-purchasing whichever is best suited, it will help reduce confusion.

Elders can supervise work

Delegate responsibility

Depending on the number of members in a family, each one can be given tasks which he/she can complete according to time availability.  Of course, these days outsourcing is the key to managing a home.  If the family consists of elderly people living with you, assign some work or responsibility which can be easily done by them or they can supervise the work which you have outsourced to a domestic help.

It is alright if children do some of their own work –

If you are a working mum and balancing home duties too, chances are your children will also imbibe the importance of self-help and will be inclined to do their own chores.  This will, in fact, help them to be independent individuals who will not be bogged down by any amount of work and any type of work.

Your spouse can lend a hand too

husband-cooking

It may happen that you and your partner may have different work schedules.  There may be days when, he comes in early, or has an option to work from home.  In that case, you can ask your spouse to complete some chore which you may find difficult to do, owing to your work load or if you are meeting deadlines.

So when work is fairly distributed, the home tends to move in rhythm without any discord.  Last but not the least,

Do not forget you have a life too –

The best time in your life is when you give time to yourself.  It may mean spending time with friends, watching a movie, visiting the parlor/spa or the gym to keep fit.  These little things give us the greatest pleasures of life.  When we invest in our own well-being the dividends of happiness, are bountiful!!

Try keeping in mind the above, and add or remove some options that suit you, and you will be able to achieve that perfect

  • Stretch

When your body is in a supine state for more than six hours, your muscles too tend to stay that way.  Stretching is a wake-up call for all the muscles to work together as a team to support your body.  Stretching benefits are many.  The most important being increasing blood circulation all over the body, reducing stress, improving your body posture, and preventing back ache.

  • Breathe deeply – in and out

The first positive thought of the day should be that you are thankful for the life that you have and what better way to show your gratitude than doing a bit of deep breathing ? Breathe deeply the life that pulses in you to feel the calmness soothe your mind and soul. Breathe out slowly; only to take another deep breath.

  • Sit up and meditate

Sit in a lotus position on the bed and close your eyes to meditate.  Let no thought interrupt your mind at this beautiful moment of the day.  Just observe your breath going in and coming out.  Feel the mind relaxing and small waves of happiness engulf you.

  • Open up your palms

Your hands are the architects of your destiny.  To survive in this world, they are your best tools.  What your mind thinks, plans, and dreams, your hands give it a tangible shape.  So at the beginning of each day open up your palms and look at them, rub them over your face and all over your body.  In Indian tradition, it is considered auspicious to look at one’s palms at day break.  There are certain mantras that go with this gesture that bestow positivity on the person.
  • Climb out and touch down – towards the ground

Another step towards stretching your body.  Bend down towards the ground and feel the stretch in the muscles, that drives away lethargy.  Feel the blood flow as your body changes posture.  Enjoy the awakening as you come up again.  Bend backwards and stretch your back and repeat as per your liking.

  • Walk on your toes and heels

As you start walking, walk first on your toes and then on your heels.  The lower leg, as well as the calf muscles, are stretched.  It is a great exercise to balance your body.  It also improves circulation to the toes and it’s of help to people with flat feet and fallen arches.

Make a habit of following these simple procedures and see the difference it makes to your day!!

15 Reasons why summer is enjoyable for homemakers!!

Standard

You often sweat at the mere thought of summer. At the onset itself you find yourself thinking, “This is just the beginning, how will I go through the whole summer season?”
But here are a few things which go unnoticed but are definitely the plus points for the scorching season.

Clothes dry in no time at all

clothes line

1. You don’t have to worry if your favorite dress is washed at the last moment, and whether it will dry well or not. It will be ready to iron in a short time after being put up on the clothes line to dry. Even big bed covers or mattresses are crackling dry when washed and put up.

Curd setting –

2. Due to the heat in the atmosphere, curd which shows a stubborn streak in the winter, and makes you wait for a long time for it to set, is all set within a few hours after being tempered.

Drinks time –

orange juice

3. You are more inclined towards drinking cool liquids. Hence solid food or cooking required is less in quantity. Kids are happy to drink up lassi, iced tea, fruit drinks, or lemonade. Also evening snacks like bhel, pav bhaji, dabeli, even pasta or noodles will suffice their taste buds and hunger pangs too. Cutting short ‘cooking the whole meal’ process.

Health is good –

4. The season doesn’t much see the growth of infectious bacteria so there is not much of a worry of catching a cold, cough or the flu.

Break – –

5. Most of the schools have vacations. So the everyday brain twister question “What should I pack for his/her short break, lunch break?” also takes a break.
6. So also, the alarm clocks going off in the morning, ironing of the school uniforms, the frantic search for the right pair of socks, keeping track of the timetables, attending school meetings, and the submissions and myriad other things are swept under the rug.

Going out –

sunglasses n hat

7. You can step out with as little as a pair of sunglasses and a hat, unlike the monsoon and winter, where you have to keep your raincoat or sweaters/jackets ready.
8. You can confidently wear white or light-colored dresses, as they are more suitable for the weather, but also there is no fear of you getting splashed by water and ruining them, from a vehicle passing by.
9. You are more hair-ready. After a hair wash there is no necessity of using a hair dryer as it dries up quickly on its own because of the atmosphere. So you are ready with time to spare.
10. Minimal make up is required. While going out during the day minimal make up will be sufficient as the glare of the sun makes dark make up look garish.

Rise and shine –

summer walk

11. The early morning weather is quite encouraging for any exercise activity. Be it a morning walk, jog, or cycling you feel energetic to perform these physical activities. Fitness levels are enhanced giving a glow and confidence.
12. Dresses put away to the back of the wardrobe, are brought up front as the exercise helps you lose weight and tones up your body.

Family time –

13. Most of the cricket matches (IPL and T20) series are held during these summer seasons. It has become a tradition of sort to wait for the summer and the eventual matches to start. The whole family; at times extended family, and friends gather to watch and cheer for the players and have a good time. The finals or semi finals are big draws now, being seen on big screens with the hotels making brisk business.

Blooms all around –

14. Summer is the time when all trees are in full bloom, exhibiting new shiny leaves along with their colorful blossoms. There are riots of color everywhere. The violets of the Jacaranda, the Bougainvillea of the flamboyant colors, the reds of the gulmohar, the yellows of the cassia, frangipani, and the list is endless. Just a whiff of their heady fragrance is enough to soar your spirits.
15. In its own way nature is trying to communicate that even if the sun is scorching, there are other pleasant things to take your mind off the blistering heat and the flowers more than make up for it.
So even if you were considering summer to be arduous, the above perspective will definitely help you to enjoy summer to the fullest!!

Sun is shinin’ and so are you!!
